Help States Save Services

With Gov. Tim Pawlenty's latest budget cutting $250 million more from local government aid, it becomes even harder for communities to maintain safe roads, police and fire protection, parks, libraries and more.

That's why, in Minnesota, Council 5 is pushing the Legislature for new revenue to save the vital services our neighbors depend on.

That’s why, in Washington, AFSCME is urging Congress to extend stimulus aid that invests in public services and jump-starts the economic recovery by saving and creating private- and public-sector jobs. Without this extended stimulus, 900,000 state and local governmentjobs will be wiped out this year.
